Reza Pankhurst is a political scientist and historian, specialising in the Middle East and Islamic movements.

He was previously a political prisoner of the Mubarak regime. His case was adopted by Amnesty International and covered extensively in the media. He was released in March 2006, and upon his return to the UK entered academia.

In 2007 he completed a Masters degree in History of International Relations to Distinction level at the London School of Economics. He was awarded his PhD from the London School of Economics and Political Science, Government department in 2011.

His first recent book, The Inevitable Caliphate? was published in 2013 by Hurst & Oxford University Press.

His most recent book Hizb ut-Tahrir - The Untold History of the Liberation Party was released in 2016 by Hurst.

He is married with two children.
